Canada, Coast to Coast by Train Canada West, 21-27 May, 2010 Rockies, Prairies & Northern Ontario
Originates in Vancouver. Features the vista dome Canadian plus a side trip in northern Ontario on the Algoma Central Railway. Conclude in Toronto, or continue with Mountain Outin' by rail to Québec, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia on the Canada East outing. • Featured train is the Canadian, featuring classic rail cars from the 1950's which have been updated to modern standards. The consist includes vista dome observation lounge cars, a traditional dining car serving meals freshly prepared on board, and comfortable sleeping cars with private rooms. • Enjoy a full day of rail travel in the Canadian Rockies, with spectacular scenery which includes Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Yellowhead Pass, and the Athabaska River. Elk and big horn sheep sightings are common along the river east of Jasper. • In Northern Ontario, the train crosses the Great Canadian Shield, a remote area of countless lakes, dense forest and bottomless bogs, where the train is the only means of access to many areas. • Enjoy a two day break in your trans-continental rail journey to ride the Algoma Central Railway on their friendly local train which serves the many wilderness camps along the line, which extends from Hearst 295 miles south to Lake Superior at Sault Ste. Marie. There is no highway access in this remote area so the train serves as the only way in or out. Scenic highlight is Agawa Canyon and the Lake Superior highlands. • Optional 3 day rail excursion to Vancouver from California cities featuring the Coast Starlight, traveling one of Amtrak's most scenic rail routes. Scenic highlights include the California coast, Sacramento River canyon and Mt. Shasta in northern California, Upper Klamath Lake and the Oregon Cascade Mountains, and Puget Sound in Washington. Fare: $1995 per person based on double occupancy at hotels. Included is sleeping car private room for 1 or 2 on the Canadian, lodging for 2 nights, highway transportation by chartered motor coach, 14 meals, taxes, luggage handling of 2 bags per person and services of an experienced tour manager who accompanies the group.
